<isc:description><![CDATA[Reiki is a therapy that originated in Japan involving the use of a universal healing energy which the practitioner channels and transmits to the patient. Transference of the Reiki energy happens when the practitioner lays his hands onto the patient with the purpose of adjusting the frequency of the patient’s aura, modifying and cleansing the body energy and promoting healing on the different levels: physical, emotional and spiritual. The Reiki technique is similar to the laying on of hands practice in most spiritual healing. However, the two differ in that the Reiki practitioner is able to pass on the healing energy within close proximity as well as send it over a distance. Serving as a conduit, the Reiki practitioner soaks up on the universal energy down to their molecular level and transfers it to the patient who must be willing in spirit to receive healing for the body. The Reiki energy is attributed with intelligence to determine if it would allow itself to be absorbed by the patient for their highest good. To start the healing session, the Reiki practitioner rubs his hands together to activate the energy flow. Then he places his hands palms down on the patient’s body or a little above the body with a space of about one to four inches. It is important for the Reiki healer to keep his hands within the patient's aura field. Reiki energy is guided by a Higher Force; it manages its own flow to and within the recipient, knowing which particular areas require healing and how to heal them. Reiki healing is deeply rooted on faith in the universal energy of life and health. When the patient allows himself to be healed, he receives the healing energy in areas that need them the most -- body, mind or spirit. Usually, the patient gets healed even in places where he thought he has no complaints. Both patient and Reiki practitioner may experience cold and prickly sensations during the transfer of energy. Sometimes they do not feel anything at all. Reiki draws from the practitioner the exact amount of energy needed to heal the patient and in the process, the healer would know intuitively when, where and how to move his hands. Reiki doesn't deplete energy. Instead, it follows a spiral motion, going back to the Reiki healer after he has cleansed the patient. As a result, Reiki healers feel a certain renewal of their energy after their sessions.Reiki is recommended to complement other forms of treatment. It is known to enhance the benefits of massage therapy. Reiki is often used to counteract the negative energy that one gets from undergoing some compulsory procedures of conventional medicine like chemotherapy, or from the side effects of HIV/AIDS cocktail therapy. It is interesting to note that there are people who use Reiki to fix anything that has energy, like cars for instance. This really sets Reiki apart from the other alternative medicine forms.Reiki practitioners who have received Level II attunement have stronger Reiki energy and can send it to heal even from a distance. However, the more reputable Reiki healers will only do so, and can only do so, upon the patient’s permission for the treatment. The effectiveness of Reiki hinges on the complete trust that both the healer and the patient place on the treatment. Somehow, it is a long shot to expect anyone, despite the gravity of their condition, to immediately believe in the efficacy of a treatment that relies on mere laying on of hands and transmitting energy. Then again, people who have to endure excruciating pains are more than willing to seek any recourse to obtain the slightest of relief. It is usually these types of people who, after experiencing their own healing, recommend the Reiki treatment to others and swear by it. The concept behind Reiki may sound new and strange, especially to people from the West, but it is comforting to know that it has no known ill side effects. And if Reiki can’t hurt, there is no risk for you to try it. And when you do so, you are only opening yourself to the endless possible benefits that Reiki has to offer. ]]></isc:description>

<isc:description><![CDATA[An herbal tea is not really a tea (that is, a beverage made from straining tea leaves), but rather a tisane. A tisane is an herbal infusion, usually made by steeping plant parts in boiling water. As they are not made in the same way as traditional teas, they contain no caffeine, but they may contain the medicinal properties of the flowers or herbs from which they are made. How to Make an Herbal TisaneChoose your herb, spice, flower, root, or seed and steep it in boiling water. Allow this preparation to infuse for several minutes before straining. Woody plants, roots, or seeds may have to be simmered for a few minutes before steeping so as to gain maximum flavor, aroma, and medicinal benefits. When steeping, the preparation should be covered in order to trap the medicinal properties of the herbs. Herbal Tisanes and Their BenefitsThe variety of tisanes or herbal teas that are available to make is unlimited. Try these gentle infusions for healthy beverages without caffeine:Chamomile—soothes digestion by acting as a muscle relaxant.Peppermint—calms nausea and also acts as a muscle relaxant.Licorice root—soothes ulcers because it is calming to the lining of the stomach and to the intestines.Clover blossom—good for menstrual periods because it contains “phytoestrogens.”Ginger—good for colds, flu, and nausea.Parsley—helps to maintain kidney health.Thyme—eases congestion and may ward off colds.Garlic—has antibacterial and antiviral properties; may also improve circulation.Herbal Combinations for Healthy TisanesTea Tonic: ginger, mint, chamomile, nettles, and rose hipsCalming Tisane for Sleep: chamomile, linden flowers, mint, and lemon balmCold Combatant Tea: ginger, thyme, sage, and honey/lemon juice (or both)Herbal teas may be beneficial, but it is important for people with severe health problems to consult a doctor before using herbal teas for a particular ailment. Pregnant women should also use caution when drinking herbal teas. ]]></isc:description>

<isc:description><![CDATA[Your house number is more than just a convenience for the postman. According to the precepts of numerology, it can mean the difference between a house and a home. Are you compatible with your house number? Read on and find out. First you have to use numerology to find out your own personal number. To do this you must add up all the numbers in your date of birth. For example, if your birthdate is June 26, 1986, you will write out the sum as 2+6+6(for the month) +1+9+8+6. The result is 38. Now you must add these numbers together, which equals 11. Add 1+1 and the answer is 2. This is your birth number. If your house number is a single number, the rest is easy. But if it has multiple numbers, you must add these together until you get one number. There is no need to add the street or the zip code. Now you have your personal number, you can compare them, and understand how you and your house relate to each other. 1: A house with this number is very demanding, needing constant renovation, redecorating and maintenance to make it sure it stays in prime condition. This should be the best house in the neighborhood. It dislikes clutter, but needs plenty of active accessories, like a gym, an adventure playground or a pool. It's a great house for the innovative, inventive decorator and lends itself well to extension and renovation. Timid or laid back types won't be able to settle in this house, so it won't suit a 2 or a 6, but it will feel like home to a 1, 4 or 8. Creative 3 and 5 will find success with artistic pursuits.2: The house with this number makes a good family home. It has a pervading atmosphere of peace and cooperation and dislikes disharmony and arguments. It has a slightly shabby air, as if it has been well lived in. It doesn't take too well to modernization, so renovations shouldn't be sudden or too invasive. When renovating you are likely to uncover problems with the plumbing or other items that have been happily ignored for decades. Disturb them though, and you will have to dig deep for repairs. You will want to create cozy corners in this house, and it is important to have a good kitchen. Active, edgy types, such as a 1, won't like it, but cozy 2s and 6s will love it.3: A house with this number is a hive of creative activity. It may have a studio or study, or lots of bookshelves. It's the ideal house for the free creative spirit, who loves to mix decorating styles. There may be odd additions to the house, like extra rooms, balconies or doors that lead nowhere. It's a fun, happy go lucky house, but one that survives neglect. The garden will be hard to tame, so let it go wild and surprise you with unexpected blooms and fruits. Tidy 4s and 8s will have trouble here, but it will suit a 3, 5 or 9n down to the ground.4: A house with this number repays a lot of care. It won't stand out but it will provide a functional and practical home. Generally, in design it lacks imagination, and manages even to make individual touches look ordinary and lack luster, so it is not a house that rewards creative decorating. But if you like a place for everything and everything in its place, this house will be ideal. It likes things stored neatly out of sight, tidy lawns, neat paths and patios. So much attention to detail may lead to disharmony if there is an occupant who can't be bothered trimming the lawn edges. Not for the creative 3 or 5, but perfect for 4 and 8.5: This is the kind of house where people are always coming and going. Several times a year it will be left to its own devices or a house sitter while the occupants jet off somewhere. It's an expansive house, and is likely to see a lot of enlarging and renovation. The garage or family room will be cluttered with ongoing projects. This a house that responds well to an eclectic style of decorating with items from all over the world. It likes screens and moveable furniture so areas can be quickly changed around, and will likely change ownership many times. It's a good house for a home business, as it attracts visitors, or an investment rental property. You will love it if you are a 1, 3 or a 5, but if you are a 4 or 8, rent it out.6: This house makes an ideal home for an extended family. It has a nurturing atmosphere where people of all ages feel unconditional love. It is likely to have a lot of bedrooms with areas made over into sleepovers or a `granny' flat. The kitchen will be large and able to feed an army in a pinch. This house responds well to comfort decorating with soft thick carpets, plush seating and indoor and outdoor entertaining areas. The garden will love being productive, so fruit trees and vegetables are likely to be in evidence. Charity collectors are drawn to this house as if by magnets, because they know they will get a warm and generous reception. The perfect setting for a 2, 6 or 9, nurturing to a creative 3 or 5, provides security for 4 and 8, but may be too stifling for a 1 and too bustling for a 7.7: This house may never be able have more than one or two occupants successfully, because it becomes tense if there is a lot of noise and activity. A number 7 house is the ideal address for a loner or a devoted couple with similar interests. This is a very spiritual house where study and work can be carried on in peace and solitude. If you run a business from this house, try to deal with your customers and clients off the premises. This house responds well to a Zen style of decorating, with lots of open space and light. Renovation should be tackled sensitively, as the resulting uproar can ruin the atmosphere. Just the right atmosphere for a 7, or a creative 3 or 5, but may be a bit chilly to a 2 or 6.8: Renovation is not recommended with this house, as it can end up proving way more costly than first estimated. Houses with this number are very solid and well built, and it soon becomes clear that changing anything requires a lot of effort. You can run a successful business from this house, and achieve a lot of recognition for craftsmanship. This house needs a decorating style in keeping with its longevity. Cheap flimsy furniture will just look silly, so go for good quality antique or period pieces. It is a good house if you like your privacy, as it does not encourage casual visitors. Ambitious 4 and 8 will like it, 1 may find it all too heavy and creative 3 and 5 will run a mile. But 2 and 6 can turn this into a comfortable family home.9: They say that when all the moving around is done and you are looking for a place to call home, you should look for a 9 House. This is the number of completion, and you will find all you are looking for here. A 9 House is the kind of place to settle down in, and it will adapt itself easily to whatever you want. It undergoes extensive renovation without a grumble, happily adapts itself to any decorating style and welcomes your friends and extended family. You may find an attic still full of someone else's junk, or a shed full of old tools. It's hard to leave a 9 House, and something of the former owners always remains. A 9 house suits all numbers because it will be just what you want it to be. ]]></isc:description>

<isc:description><![CDATA[As described by parents and psychic practitioners, Indigo Children are unusually precocious children born after 1992. Their label derives from the color indigo which surrounds their auras - a color associated with the third eye, or psychic, chakra. The characteristics that set these children apart from other children is their emotional and physical super sensitivity. They are intuitive and usually academically and/or metaphysically gifted. Many Indigo Children seem wise beyond their years and can have the ability to detect hidden agendas. Many Indigo Children are diagnosed with ADD or ADHD. But parents of these children are certain that their special qualities are what contribute to this diagnosis. Indigo Children say they see things that other people can't see—ghosts, angels, auras. Doctors say this is part of their supposed disability, but the Indigo Children and their parents believe that this supernatural sight is a part of their gift. Some say that Indigo Children are the next step in evolution. Often they are described as guides who will help others and show the way to the future. It is also said they have strong life purposes; their warrior spirit urges them to crush old standards and traditions that are no longer of social use. They seek integrity, and therefore are very sensitive to dishonesty. Some specialists say that Indigo Children have always existed, though in smaller numbers than today. Others say that Indigo Children have not existed before this time. Sources say that some adults can be Indigos, but lose this color from their aura later in life. One definition of Indigo Children describes them as beings that are born with a biological connection to their spirituality. As the next step in human evolution, they are supposed to bring humanity to a higher level of spirituality. ]]></isc:description>

<isc:description><![CDATA[Magnet therapy has been used by different cultures for healing for a very long time. Cleopatra may have been the first historical figure to use magnet therapy as she was known to sleep on lodestone or magnetite to keep her skin youthful. This could also be the same reason why ancient rulers wore metallic headbands and bracelets. Even Aristotle and Plato were said to mention the benefits of lodestone in their works. As a means for healing, magnets are widely used in countries like China, India and France. Magnet therapy was introduced to the United States in the early 1900's and is now fast gaining wide acceptance. Magnetic products from jewelry, to shoe inserts, mattress pads and other things with magnetic properties are extensively marketed everywhere, from malls to TV and online shopping. There is a natural electromagnetic field surrounding the earth and it largely affects our state of health and general well-being. This magnetic energy is called by various names, one of which is the Chinese Qi, which they use in acupuncture. The magnetic energy field is the area around a magnet in which magnetic forces act. The cells making up the human body are capable of renewing themselves. And, as proponents of magnet therapy believe, magnets can be used to manipulate these cells. They contend that the same natural energy responsible for cell renewal can be amplified by magnetic force. The thing is, not all magnetic energy is beneficial and can be used for healing. It is common knowledge that cell phones and computers emit harmful magnetic energy that cause memory loss, headaches, and in rare occasions, even tumors. On the other hand, beneficial magnetic force can be harnessed to increase blood flow. Blood flow improves when iron in the blood is attracted to the magnetic field which causes movement within the blood stream. By this principle, magnets are used to relieve migraines and other chronic pains and to heal scars on internal organs caused by surgery. You can have access to magnets in different sizes and strengths. Magnetic power is determined by the weight of iron that it can lift. Magnetic strength is measured in terms of Gauss and Tesla. Your therapist will know which strength of magnet you require. Usually, stronger magnets are used to cover large areas and to treat chronic pains while lighter magnets are meant for the sensitive body parts like the ears. You have to consult a magnet therapy practitioner to know what particular size and strength of magnet you need to heal a specific part of your body, say a wound or an acute swelling. A good training is necessary to know the many applications of magnet on the human body. The magnet therapist should be knowledgeable with the different sizes, strengths, and proper placements as well as the duration of magnetic exposure required in treating various ailments. If you wish to try magnet therapy, you can order online from the hundreds of websites selling magnets and magnetic devices. However, it is best to consult with a trained magnet therapy practitioner before you do so. Magnetic insoles are recommended for lower backaches. They benefit those who are on their feet for the most part of the day and are popular with bowlers. Magnetic mattress pads help improve the overall immune system, relieve pain and increase energy. Magnetic mattresses come in the same strength and blood flow is stimulated all over the body. You can use this therapy on your own as sleeping on them is safe. However, magnet therapy is not recommended for pregnant women and those who have a pacemaker or internal defibrillator. For bad elbows, knees and joints, magnetic pads and wraps are recommended. Then again, people who intend to use magnet therapy should first sit with a professional to determine the particular size and strength they need as well as the best device to use. ]]></isc:description>

<isc:description><![CDATA[Ctenocephalides canis and Ctenocephalides felis are two uninvited guests that like to make themselves at home on our dogs and cats - and because we love our pets, we shudder at the thought of dowsing them in potentially harmful chemicals to kill those pesky fleas. But there is a better way, if we take a holistic approach.Set aside one day on a sunny weekend to put in place procedures that will protect your home, yard and pets from fleas in a simple, natural way.First, put the pets outside and tackle your living areas. Dust and clean thoroughly, gather up fluffy toys and other looses items, sweep the floors, and vacuum the carpets and rugs thoroughly. If your vacuum cleaner has poor suction, hire a stronger one. You want to clean all larvae and existing fleas out of their hiding places.Pay special attention to areas where pet hairs have accumulated, and behind heaters, under sofas and down the backs of chairs. When you have finished vacuuming, place the bag in a plastic garbage bag and seal tightly, or empty the contents of a bagless vacuum cleaner into a garbage bag and seal. Place the garbage bag in the trash. If you have wooden floors, take a bucket of soapy water with a few drops of eucalyptus or tea tree oil added to it, and wash the areas where your pet sleeps. Add eucalyptus or tea tree oil to the washing machine and thoroughly wash all pets? bedding, cushion covers, removable upholstery covers and any other soft furnishings that may be harboring fleas. Hang the items in the sun to dry. Before you replace the carpets use a safe, natural borax compound like Rx for Fleas Plus, from Fleabusters, or Flea Away Diatomaceous earth, to dust around those areas that harbor fleas, such as around the heater, along skirting boards and between the floorboards of wooden floors. It is important that you keep up this routine of thorough vacuuming and dusting with borax because fleas lay their eggs in cracks and crevices.Move outside now, and bathe your pets using a natural flea control shampoo. You can make your own by adding a few drops of citrus oil and a few drops of tea tree oil to simple baby shampoo. Lather the dog thoroughly and if possible, leave the lather on for a few minutes to drown the pests. If your dog has very long hair, consider clipping it short to better seek and destroy fleas.Comb your pet thoroughly with a flea comb to remove the fleas and their eggs before you let it back in the house.Cats are very sensitive to some oils like tea tree, so it is best to simply shampoo your cat thoroughly with a plain shampoo, and comb out the fleas and eggs.Keep the flea comb and shampoo handy for a once a week treatment, but the best way to tackle your pet?s problem is from the inside out. Add garlic and brewer?s yeast to your dog?s diet ? this adds an odor to the dog?s skin that fleas hate, but which you won?t be able to detect. You can crush a tablet of brewer?s yeast and a clove of garlic and add it to the food bowl.Take care with your cat, as garlic is considered toxic to them. A fresh, wholesome diet that includes vegetables and sweet, soft fleshed fruits (which cats love) will go a long to help guard against further infestations.Healthy animals are better able to repel fleas, so it is worth the extra expense of a good brand of pet food in the long run. Add fresh cooked vegetables chopped into their everyday diet. If you are having stew or casserole for dinner, set some aside for your pet.Now you can send you pet back inside and tackle the yard. Fleas piggy back their way around by hopping on the nearest dog or human, so you need to guard your yard as well.First sweep thoroughly around porch and outdoor living areas, and scatter some more borax compound or Diatomaceous earth in nooks and crannies. Place all sweepings into a plastic garbage bag and seal tightly.Next check your fences ? animals wandering in and out will offload more unwanted visitors than themselves, so make sure your property is secure. While you may love having birds in your backyard, discourage them from building nests. Bird fleas can be very hard to eradicate. If you have a problem with other pests, such as mice, tackle this head on, as this will be another way for fleas to get into your house.Keep your lawn neatly trimmed, and don?t let rubbish build up anywhere. Grow pennyroyal, as it is known to repel fleas. The newest method of outside flea control is nematodes, tiny worms that eat flea larvae. You can buy nematodes from garden and pet stores, and you don?t need many to start with, as they multiply rapidly. Finally, dispose of the plastic bags full of vacuum dust and sweepings. Now you have fired the first salvo in your war against fleas, you need to keep up regular patrols. None of the methods outlined above are a quick fix like many of the chemical products on the market, but they are an effective, and safe way to keep your pets flea free and happy. ]]></isc:description>

<isc:description><![CDATA[If you haven’t experienced having a massage, then it’s high time for you to try one. And, if you expect a massage to be a gentle and soothing encounter, you could be wrong. But it would definitely work on that tension you feel in your shoulders and lower back.Do make an early appointment. That neck pain or back pain that’s been bothering you for a long time may be aggravated with your posture, especially if you maintain the same position for longer periods like working at the computer. What can you expect during a massage therapy? The answer depends on the type of massage you choose. If you go for the full body massage in a professional setting, you will be in a pleasant and comfortable room where the lights are soft to make you feel relaxed. You will also be asked to disrobe but your vital parts will be draped with towels or sheets. You will have to lie prone, or facing down on the massage table and your head goes to a special padded holder with a hole in the middle so you can breathe -- think of a donut. Before the massage therapist works on your body, he would ask you in which areas of your body are experiencing pains and other complaints.Be prepared. If you selected deep tissue massage therapy and this is your first ever attempt to have one, you will swear that it is the most awful pain you have experienced yet surprisingly, you will like it.Deep tissue massage is a more focused type of massage therapy and works on a specific joint, muscle or muscle group. Its techniques were designed to access deeper layers of the soft tissue, break up the tautness in there, and retrain the muscles to move more harmoniously. The first few deep tissue massage therapy sessions may seem to hurt and it’s perfectly normal to clench your jaws as you try to bear the pain. The end result will be worth more than the initial pain. Depending on the severity of your condition, it might take a few or many sessions before you notice the absence of your old pains. To supplement your massage therapy sessions, your practitioner may ask you to perform several stretching exercises for the afflicted body part (e.g., neck or back or legs). These you have to do daily or nightly, depending on your schedule, and you will be amazed at the results.Massage therapy is one of the oldest means of healing. Its techniques include kneading and application of pressure, motion, vibration or tension, either manually or using mechanical devices. Massage therapy works on the body's soft tissues (e.g., muscles, tendons, connective tissue, joints, tendons, lymphatic vessesl and the gastrointestinal organs. The massage therapy aids in the healing of injuries, relieves psychological stress, ease pains, stimulates circulation and tones the muscles. You can also expect your breathing to be better while your circulation improves. During a massage therapy session, you will be coached on how to breathe slowly and deeply so they can gain the full benefits of the therapy. You may feel uncomfortable during the first few visits, but you will appreciate the relaxation it gives you. Occasionally, soft massage techniques are used. They are so relaxing clients often fall asleep whiled being massaged.Chronic pains may require a series of treatment sessions before you gain the full benefits. Other than improved circulation and more efficient breathing, you get to relax your muscles and thus avoid sprains and incidents of torn ligaments. This is especially important for athletes. Even non-athletes would benefit too, particularly those who have weak structures and are always tense making them prone to injury.Body structures weaken because of inactivity. This is particularly true for couch potatoes, or people who do desk jobs but fail to exercise. Their lower backs are prone to strain when lifting heavy objects even if they bend their knees to do so. Massage therapy retrains and repositions the muscles making them more flexible. Sprained or strained muscles would thus be less likely to occur.Fatigue is characterized by extreme tautness of the muscles and you require extra energy just to move about. Massage therapy relieves fatigue by relaxing the muscles and promoting ease of movement. While fatigue is indicated by a feeling of lack of energy, its relief results in extra energy and enthusiasm that can be used to pursue other interests. Massage therapists often use oils or creams to reduce the friction with dry skin. It is also common for them to integrate aromatherapy in their practice. A few drops of essential oils like lavender, rosemary and peppermint blended into the carrier oil or massage cream can help the client feel relaxed and peaceful. So, when you go for a massage, feel free to request for scented oil. It will enrich your massage therapy experience tremendously.Massage picture courtesy of www.massagenerd.com]]></isc:description>

<isc:description><![CDATA[A lot of people enjoy the soft lighting afforded by burning candles. If you are one of them, you probably know that most candles will dribble hot wax on your table cloth or carpet if given a chance. When this happens, there are several things you can do to remove the wax. Your first action should be to remove all the loose wax from the drip area. Do not pry way away, simply remove anything that comes away easily. One process you may use is to fill a metal pan (it MUST be metal) with ice. Place the pan on top of the wax spill and leave it until the wax is frozen. You may need to add more ice if it melts too quickly. When the wax is frozen, hit it with a small hammer to break it up. Pick up the pieces or use a vacuum to remove them. You might also choose to use a heat treatment. Place a brown paper bag over the spill, and use a hot iron to melt the wax into the paper. This is not a method to be used on materials that will melt along with the wax. Use this on natural fibers. In both cases, follow up the main treatment with some dry-cleaning solvent on a clean cloth. This will allow you to remove any remaining residues.]]></isc:description>

<isc:description><![CDATA[Smudge sticks are a beautiful way to fragrance and purify your home, and if you're a crafty person, you might want to try to make them on your own. If that's the case, here's some information on how to do it.First you need to gather your materials. All you will need are dried whole sprigs of herbs that will burn and smoke slowly (rather than flare up in your hands!) and some sewing cotton.Native American smudge sticks are made with white sage, or one of its many varieties. This herb grows tall sprigs that are ideal for drying and bundling together as smudge sticks. But you can use other suitable herbs such as lavender, cedar, pine, marjoram, thyme and rosemary. All will give long sprigs suitable for drying and making smudge sticks. If you obtain fresh herb sprigs from your garden, they should be about six-12 inches long and thoroughly dried before use. Bundle the sprigs together in bunches and hand them upside down in a warm dry place until they are ready to use.Now you can combine the herbs to make smudge sticks. Try different combinations to create different aromas and moods. Lavender, marjoram and sage are very calming, while pine and cedar are refreshing. Choose sprigs that are all the same length, or place the longest sprigs in the center of your smudge bundle with shorter ones outside – this will give a pointed `wand’ effect.Make each bundle about the thickness of three fingers bunched together – you want a bundle you can get a firm grip on, not too thick so it is hard to hold, or too thin, so it will bend and may cause hot pieces of herb to drop onto your skin or clothes.Using the cotton thread, bind the sprigs together. You can simply make several bindings in rings down the length of the smudge stick or cross and weave the thread so the whole stick is enclosed. But make sure your smudge stick has enough plant material in it to pack tightly so it will burn slowly, and is firmly bound together so pieces don’t fall off.The only other thing you will need now is a feather to help spread the smudging smoke, and something to light it with. A candle flame is usually the best way to light a smudge stick. The stick should smolder gently, producing spirals of smoke without flame. If the stick catches alight, blow it out immediately so that it smokes. As the smoke rises, use your feather to direct it to all corners of the room. The best time to smudge is when you are moving into a new house, to clear it of old stale energy. Direct the smoke into corners and cupboards and areas like under the stairs.Other times to smudge are when there has been illness or negativity in the house, or during spring cleaning. You can also use smudge sticks to cleanse items such as tarot cards, crystals, clothes and anything else that you may feel needs purifying and clearing of old negative energies. When you are not using your smudge sticks, treat them with care. Always make sure they have stopped burning before you put them away. The best way to put out a smudge stick is to push the burning end into sand. Keep the sand in a decorative bowl and it can hold the smudge stick until you want to use it again. Capping it in a large jar is another way to ensure it stops smoldering, as it will soon use us the available air and be extinguished. The used smudge stick can be left in the jar, which can be decorated, between uses, but take the lid off or it may become damp. Keep your unused smudge sticks in a nice box or drawer, wrapping each one in tissue paper.Do remember that smoke can irritate young children and babies and those with respiratory problems, so do not smudge when they are in the house.Treat your smudge sticks with care and they can last a long time, bringing you fragrance and cleansing whenever you need it.Photo credit: devhoney-stock]]></isc:description>

<isc:description><![CDATA[Crystals are minerals that form a crystalline structure with its atoms and ions arranged in geometrically precise patterns. Quartz, with its characteristic clear points, is the most common crystal. Quartz caught the attention of many people in the United States in the mid-1980s during the surge of the New Age movement, spirituality, mysticism, metaphysics and other related activities. Note that crystals were already popularly used by other cultures long before they were commercialized by the American shops and establishments that rode the new wave.Supporting claims of the historical use of crystals were the various discoveries of archeologists who found crystals in graves while they were doing excavations in the Middle East, Africa, Russia and Europe. The crystals they found were a variety of gems including amber jewelry, turquoise, lapis lazuli, and garnet carvings of goddesses. There were also some carvings of animals and birds so it was thought that these gems were part of the rituals during the funeral: to serve as protection, to accompany the departed as it journeys to the next life.In Boyne Valley, Ireland, there is a solar temple called New Grange. It predates both the Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids. Its construction was such that the Winter Solstice sun aligns with the entrance, illuminating the passage and inside chamber. A shaft of sunlight shines through the roof box constructed completely of white quartz crystals, an amazing sight to behold. Today, admission to this ancient mound at New Grange for the Winter Solstice sunrise is by lottery.Lapis lazuli (also known as just lapis) was highly prized by the pharaohs of ancient Egypt. Lapis was ground and then rubbed into the rulers’ brows to expel spiritual impurities. Believed to provide clear eyesight, malachite was used as ornaments in the pharaohs’ crowns to enable them to rule wisely. The Egyptians also used the precious and semi-precious gemstones and crystals to make amulets, some of which were carved in the likeness of their sacred scarabs.Halfway across the globe, the ancient Mayans were also using crystals, making mirrors from pyrite. They used obsidian to create sacrificial knives, which they used on captive enemies. The Mayans also held a belief about following the end of the rainbow, except that instead of our proverbial pot of gold, theirs was turquoise, which according to their tradition, bridged heaven and earth. The Mayan Indians also used crystals in their healing, from the diagnosis to the treatment of illnesses. They believed that upon the death of a good person, his soul goes into the crystals and is transformed into healing energy. The use of crystals by almost all cultures is anchored on the crystals’ ability to carry energy vibrations. Considering that man is also made from energy, vibration and water, crystals can amplify a person’s own vibrations to foster healing and increase energy level. The presence of crystals is enough to alert the senses. Gazing and meditating upon them helps restore the balance within. It is believed that the energy needed for basic health, love and prosperity is trapped within the human body, specifically in the energy centers known as chakras. Placing the crystals on these areas makes the quartz or any other crystal vibrate, raising the person’s own vibrations, thereby stimulating the energy in those areas of the body.Stomach aches, for example, or hyperacidity can be treated using crystals. You can use turquoise, a sacred stone known to absorb negativity. Place it on the lower part of the stomach to neutralize the acid and fix your stomach problem. Do remember to charge your crystal before using it for healing.Austrian crystals (or Swarovski crystals as they are popularly called) are artificial (man-made) crystals that contain 32% lead oxide to maximize refraction. Light shining through these crystals refract in a rainbow spectrum. To charge your natural rock crystals to be used for healing, lay them down on a spot where sunlight from the Austrian crystal hits. This will transfer energy to the crystal, charging it for use. ]]></isc:description>
